Step #2 β€” Setting up Aliases

Aliases allow you to create additional email addresses that point to existing mailboxes without creating separate ones.

For example, if you have a mailbox, [email protected], and you want to receive emails at another email address, [email protected], without having a separate mailbox, you can set up the alias [email protected] that points to [email protected]. Now, you only need to log in to [email protected] and check the emails received at both addresses.

  1. In the Classic Interface, to set up an alias, navigate to Aliases. In the New Interface, navigate to Aliases and click Add Alias.

  2. Enter the alias and select the domain from the dropdown menu.

  3. Next, select the email address you wish to be a member of that alias. Click Add.

  4. Click Save Changes to confirm the changes.

    Important

You cannot have aliases with the same name as the mailboxes or alias of aliases.

Step #4 β€” Setting up Catch-All Address

Important

The Rackspace Catch-All feature is deprecated as of October 31st, 2022. As a result, new users will not be able to use this feature; however, existing users using the feature will continue to work for the time being. This feature will reach end-of-life by January 1st, 2024.

You can create Catch-All addresses that receive all emails sent to incorrect/non-existent mailboxes on your domain. This feature ensures that the email is still received on your domain even if the sender makes mistakes when typing the email address.

To set up a catch-all address, you can go to the Catch-All tab. In the first dropdown, select the domain and the email address from the second dropdown to set up the catch-all address. Finally, click Save Changes to confirm.

That's it! We hope this article was helpful. If you need any help, then feel free to search your query on Cloudways Support Center or contact us via chat (Need a Hand > Send us a Message). Alternatively, you can also create a support ticket.

FAQs

For $1/month, will I get the same services Rackspace provides with direct accounts?

Yes, you will get all the same features using Rackspace Email Add-on that you will get directly from Rackspace, i.e., 25GB mailbox, Secure IMAP (Outlook & Mobile), domain aliases, Web-based, anywhere access, and much more.

Can I set up a separate Rackspace account for my clients?

Yes, you can set up a separate Rackspace account for your clients. You need to provide us with the domain and email box details.

How can I configure Rackspace email settings (IMAP/SMTP) on my Outlook, iOS, or mobile application?

Please look at this helpful support KB for Rackspace email client configuration.

What is the difference between POP3 and IMAP?

POP3 is used to download mail to a single device. The primary usage of POP3 is to import emails and delete them from the sender's location. On the other hand, IMAP connects multiple devices to forward email.

How to recover a deleted mailbox?

If you want to recover your Rackspace mailbox after deleting it, you can contact us via chat or create a support ticket. This way, we will try to recover your mailbox with all the old emails if possible. It will be created if you try to recreate the same mailbox, but old emails will not be recovered.

Can I use Rackspace for transactional (server's outgoing) emails?

Rackspace is for mailboxes (e.g., [email protected]) sending and receiving emails. In contrast, a transactional email service is used for outgoing emails only, i.e., emails (subscribers, order confirmation, marketing, etc.) sent from applications/websites.

Furthermore, Rackspace is limited for outgoing emails and cannot be used for mass-volume transactional emails. We suggest you use our SMTP (Free) or Elastic Email (Paid) Add-ons as an alternative.

How can I add multiple addresses per domain and forward these emails to different and unique addresses?

You can do that by using the Alias feature. Alias is used to forward all emails from an alternate account to your primary email ID. For example, if you have an email [email protected] and an alias as [email protected], all mail sent to [email protected] would be forwarded to [email protected].
